The evening of 4th September 2012 was a most uplifting occasion for not only everyone directly connected with the Church of St. Barnabas, Tunbridge Wells but also for the entire Diocese.

Sharp on 7.30pm in the fading sunlight this wonderful procession entered the Church from the south porch and made its way to the High Altar

The church was packed to capacity which was not a total surprise when reflecting on the great support that there has been during the interregnum. There were more than thirty robed Clergy and many others from Churches far and wide including those retired Priests who have so kindly ministered to us each Sunday. The Guild of All Souls was also well represented by members of the council and their President the Bishop of Richborough, The Rt. Revd. Norman Banks.

Fr. John’s family from Texas were there to witness this very special event and additionally a large contingent came from St. Mary’s, Somers Town where he had worked since 2009.

Following an inspiring sermon by the Bishop of Edmonton the formalities of the Installation and Licensing were conducted by James Bishop of Rochester and the Archdeacon of Tonbridge and finally came the Greetings including words from representatives of St. Barnabas Church endorsed by the Archdeacon.

Mass was celebrated by Bishop Peter and the final blessing was by Bishop James .

The entire service was enhanced by an exceptional performance from the choir and the evening ended on a very happy note in the Church Hall with a fine spread of refreshments.
